Throughout Utah, Idaho, California, and Nevada, there's a chain of Mormon thrift stores named Deseret Industries. They've Been An Endless Inspiration For Me...
Aside from getting glimpses of entire polygamist families, homeless people, and experimental regional hipsters, you get to mingle with the interminable junk as well as the priceless swag marked at 9 cents. The stores are non-profit and train people into new work skills, thus a lot of the work force ranges from those down on their luck, to the extremely handicapped. Some of the workers are very low-functioning and spend their days leisurely arranging the goods in the store into a comprehensible pattern: rainbow. I love walking down the isles and watching them methodically sorting trashed plastic containers, t-shirts or toys. It can be really awe-inspiring to watch people with even the lowest social interaction abilities be able to sort and arrange mountains of junk into touching outsider modern masterpiece collages. I only had a few photos as I was in a hurry for this blog, but I intend to add to this folder, enjoy...
Oh the tupperware, the office supplies & teddys bare! I sing the praises of plaid flannel in mazes; grannies' panties, umbrellas for aunties--wouldn't we die, without our dear DI? I see ROYGBIV aisles of the things to bring smiles: red plastic "jellies" and doll-baby bellies, orange plastic flowers and candles in towers, yellowed books piled in neat rows all filed, avocado green chairs matched with tiki lamps in pairs, blue-daisied dresses and brown bewigged tresses, indigo bedspreads and Barbie dolls without heads, and lastly not leastly--a ghastly ghoul beastie! Oh wouldn't we die, without our rainbow-hued DI? [Please sing to the tune of the first music box you find on aisle four.]
Wow...your fashion is what I love. Modeling is so exciting but your style of modeling makes it a feeling of the future. I would love the opportunity to walk the catwalk one time with your style of clothing and your look!! <3 Mary
